My Search Findings for 5/8: Hybrid Rental Cars, In-Room Refrigerators in Dubai, and Cave Hotels

May 8, 2007

Hybrid rentals: Having just visited San Diego over the weekend, I decided to do something good for the environment and rented a hybrid from Fox Rental Car. Even though they didn’t have the Prius I reserved, they did at least give me a Toyota Highlander. Nice quiet ride, made me feel good to know that I wasn’t contributing too much to my eco-footprint, and when I went to top off my tank before returning it, I only had to put in about 1 1/2 gallons of gas for the weekend. Not bad at all.

Complimentary Hybrid parking at The Serrano Hotel: Speaking of hybrid rental cars, Kimpton’s Serrano Hotel in San Francisco has a unique offering to reward all the eco-friendly drivers out there: free valet parking for guests driving hybrids. Considering their normal rate is almost $40 overnight, a true bargain.

In-room refrigerators in Dubai: Always trying to help our luxury travel new parents, I received a message asking about what luxury hotels in Dubai might have kitchenettes or in-room refrigerators. A couple have a newborn baby and they need to make sure that their hotel has the facilities for all of their food needs. I found a few hotels in Dubai with either mini-bars or in-room refrigerators, such as Dal Ar Masyaf at Madinat Jumeirah and Mina A’Salam at Madinat Jumeirah

Business Travel Headaches on the Rise: Not good news. More business travelers + higher prices + less availability = tough times ahead for business travel.

Cave Hotels: Forget about the penthouse suite. Try going underground at some of the oddest hotel rooms in Australia, Spain and in other spelunking delights, including the Desert Cave Hotel in Australia and The Casa Cuevas on the Coast of Spain.
